Rev Boyer Calls 4 Sept 9 Unity Against Carceral Enslavement #DecarcerateNJ http://bit.ly/29mqCaG

To All NJ Area Organizations and Individuals in the Struggle for Justice,

I am writing to express my solidarity with all who fight for freedom throughout New Jersey and the country to bring attention to prison enslavement in U.S. prisons and detention centers. OnSeptember 9, 2016 we are asking individuals and organizations to develop events and activities in solidarity and support of a multi-state coordinated strike aimed at ending prison enslavement. Our incarcerated are forced to work for little more than a dollar hour.

According to an article from the news site The Intercept, "On April 1, a group of prisoners from Ohio, Alabama, Virginia, and Mississippi called for a ‘nationally coordinated prisoner work stoppage against prison slavery’ to take place on September 9, the 45th anniversary of the Attica prison riot. ‘We will not only demand the end to prison slavery, we will end it ourselves by ceasing to be slaves,’‘They cannot run these facilities without us.’” See:

As an African American minister of the gospel, I am compelled to fight and encourage the struggle for freedom and justice. Mass incarceration, private prisons, and prison industrial complex slave labor which is legalized in our constitution, must be challenged at every level. I pray all justice and freedom loving people would work to support this effort!

In Christ’s Name,

Rev. Charles F. Boyer
Pastor Bethel AME Church, Woodbury NJ
